And……WE’RE BACK!!!!!!!!!

.

I cannot tell you how good it feels to finally wipe away the cobwebs, and blow the dust off my little corner of the world wide web.  I know that many of you have been wondering why I haven’t been posting, and if I was going to start writing again.  Basically, life happened.  So much life was happening that I needed to put a few things on hold, including the blog.  I needed to take a little time for myself, and that I did.

.

So, things are getting back on track, and it’s time to crack my knuckles and get posting!!  I have still been taking photos and getting ideas together, so I have lots to share.  I thought I would start by catching you all up on what’s been going on over here for the past few months:

.

I have lost.

I have gained.

I have learned.

.

Christmas was great.

New Years was great.

Valentines Day was great.

So was Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday, Chinese New Year, Groundhog Day, President’s Day, Fat Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, and Dr Suess’s Birthday.

We sure did have a lot of holidays and observances while I was gone….

.

I celebrated a very special birthday.  For those of you that don’t know, I was born on Leap Year!!  2012 marked my 8th birthday, and the last year I will be older than my daughter. Yup.

.

I took a photography class, so hopefully you will start seeing better composed pictures.  I even purchased an advanced class to learn all the funky cool features on my fancy camera.  If anyone is looking for a great place to take some photography classes in the Chicagoland area, I highly recommend Balanced Exposure.  They offer Groupons a lot, so keep your eyes open!

.

Skylar has lost 5 teeth.  Correction: Skylar has pulled out 5 of her own teeth!  The kid is an animal!

.

I can’t wait to get posting!!  I’m planning on generally taking it easy and posting just a few times a week…with the exception of this first week. St Patrick’s Day is fast approaching, and I have several great projects and food-related posts to share.

.

So, I hope you all come back tomorrow for A Little Bit of This & That!!

.

‘Til then!

Advent Calendar – Last Year

I figured that since December is just a few short days away, I should really get working on my advent calendar for this year.  While I’m doing that, I thought I would re-post the advent calendar I made last year.  It was so glittery, and fun, and (best of all) sugar-free!

.

Last year I found a really great advent calendar idea on Giver’s Log, where she created a printable for an advent calendar on post-it notes. I loved the cute design, but wasn’t brave enough to put post it notes through our printer, like she suggested.  so I modified it a bit. Here’s the end result:

.

.

I feel like this calendar is almost like a piece of art, so I put it where all great art belongs: on the fridge. It’s sort of big, so here’s a close up of the top to help get a better idea of what’s going on here:

.

.

For each day, there is a graphic showing a string of lights. Every day one more lightbulb is added.  Here’s what 25 looked like:

.

.

I put each day’s graphic onto a square of green paper for a background.  (for the full tutorial with measurements, *click here*) I also printed the graphics onto red paper, and used a small piece of mounting strip on the back to cover the matching white square.  This way you will be able to remove the red paper later without ripping the white paper underneath.

.

.

..

Squares 1-24 we attached to the fridge this way, but for the 25th I attached an extra glittery square background to make it pop.  It is THE day after all.

.

.

I also created a “Days ’til Xmas” sign, which you can print out *here*.

.

I put an empty green square on the top left, and the “days ’til x-mas” sign to the right, with all the days underneath (in rows of 4, with the 25th on it’s own).  We liked the look of having all of the pieces a little skewed instead of perfectly straight. We embellished with some cute glittery ornaments I found at Michael’s.

.

Each day, pull the appropriate red square off.  We then placed it in the empty green square. I had Skylar count the days left until Christmas, and write that number for our countdown.

.

.

Skylar did the majority of the taping and sticking, and she loved the end result. If you are looking for a quick and easy (but visually popping!) advent calendar, this might work for you.

.

Did you make an advent calendar this year? Comment below and tell me about it, or link to it!

.

Have a great December!

Hi Everyone!

Do you have something fun you want to share?  It can be things we do (recipes, art projects, ect), or something totally different.  How about some boy stuff?  I never get to talk about boy stuff.  Don’t have a blog, but have always wanted to try it?  Now is your chance!!

.

You are also welcome to try your hand at one of our specialty posts, like Muffin Tin Monday, Skylarisms (which you can name after your own comedian), or Gluten Free Friday.

Waiting excitedly for your email…

Welcome Miss Tooth Fairy

Exciting News!!

.

Skylar lost her first tooth!

.

.

We’ve been working on this very wiggly tooth for a few days now, and yesterday (at school), it finally came out!

.

Apparently Skylar was helping a friend to the nurse’s office, and told the nurse that she had a very wiggly tooth.  The nurse told her she should twist it out, and she did!  My kid pulled her own tooth out!

.

I bet she looked something like this when she did it…

.

.

Since she lost it at school, the nurse gave her a little tiny pink treasure chest box to keep it in.  I think this was just as exciting to Skylar as the actual tooth loss.  The box and the tooth were safely tucked under her pillow before bedtime…

.

.

…and in the morning she found an empty box, and a dollar!

.

Now, because it’s just our luck, Skylar lost her first tooth yesterday and can you guess what today is???

.

PICTURE DAY!!!

.

Of course it is!

.

It’s okay though, because I think she looks pretty darn cute…

.

.

Adorable!

.

Any good tooth-losing stories out there you want to share?  I’d love to hear ’em!

.

Happy Toothless Picture Day!!
